Oakdale falls to Serra in CIF Division Two State Bowl Title

CARSON, Calif.-Marques Rodgers ran for three touchdowns and Adoree Jackson caught two touchdowns and ran for another as Gardena Serra defeated Oakdale 42-15 in the California State Division II Championship Saturday night.

The Cavaliers (14-2) won their second state title in four years.

Jackson scored on a 78-yard run down the left sideline on a fake punt in the third quarter for a 42-0 lead. He slipped behind the defense for a 50-yard scoring reception and delivered the highlight of the game when he caught a short pass from Jalen Greene, broke two tackles and was somersaulted into the end zone to make it 35-0 at halftime. The 78-yard run was an all-divisions record for longest rushing TD.

Rodgers scored on runs of 1, 27 and 57 yards in the first quarter for a 21-0 lead. Greene also threw a pair of TD passes.

Serra totaled 357 yards of offense in the first half. Oakdale was held to 111 total yards in the half despite having the ball for 16:03.

D-II NorCal Championship: Oakdale def. Clayton Valley

STOCKTON, CA - The Oakdale Mustangs def. the Clayton Valley Eagles for the D-II California Regional Bowl on Saturday night.

Oakdale will move forward to play Serra next Saturday at the Home Depot Center for the D-II State Championship match.

Turlock police officer hit by car during burglary call

TURLOCK, Calif. - A Turlock police officer was hit by a car when he responded to a report of a burglary Friday evening.

Sgt. Anthony Silva responded to a home on the 100 block of South Berkeley, in west Turlock, around 6:31 p.m., spotted two unknown subject and called for backup, Officer Mayra Lewis said.

As Silva waited for other officers to arrive on scene, he was suddenly hit by another vehicle.

Lewis said when other officers arrived at the scene, medical crews were called to help. Silva was life-flighted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle, who was not involved in the burglary called, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. Lewis said the driver did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Silva's condition was stabilized and is expected to recover from his injuries.

Turlock runaways found safe

TURLOCK, CA - Two Turlock boys who ran away were found unharmed.

The boys, 11-year-old Owen Michael Robertson and 13-year-old James Michael Bowen, left their northeast Turlock home on foot at approximately 8 a.m. Thursday. Robertson is the nephew of Bowen, police said.

The pair were considered at risk because of their age. Officers were actively searching for them until they were found Thursday evening.

STOCKTON, CA - The Oakdale Mustangs defeated the Vista del Lago Eagles, 22-9 the CIF Sac Joaquin Section Division III Championship.

Suspect identified in Turlock fatal hit and run

TURLOCK, CA - Turlock police now have a name for the suspected driver in a Nov. 3 hit and run fatal crash who allegedly left his passenger to die.

Investigators are looking for Jose Jesus Aguilar, 19, of Delhi, said Sgt. Stephen Webb.

Web said Aguilar was behind the wheel of his car when he lost control of it and smashed into a tree and then hit a house on the 1200 block of Lander Avenue in Turlock that Saturday. Passenger Taylor Vessel, 18, was partially ejected and soon died.

Aguilar was described as Hispanic, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He usually wear his long black hair in a braided ponytail. He has a tattoo of four dots under his left eye and one dot under his right eye.
