Oakdale police: Girl made up rape story | News

OAKDALE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities in Central California say a 16-year-old girl who reported being forced into a pickup truck at knifepoint and raped made the story up.
The girl had told police in the Stanislaus County city of Oakdale that she was blindfolded and abducted on June 13 while walking home from summer school.
But Oakdale police Det. Brian Shimmel told the Modesto Bee she acknowledged on Tuesday that she fabricated the story to get attention from her mother.
Police spent weeks investigating the report. Shimmel said the girl's timeline did not fit, and he could not find any witnesses to corroborate her story.
He does not plan on requesting she be charged for filing a false police report.
