Join fellow book lovers at the Riverbank Library on Tuesday, May 28 at 4 p.m. for the Riverbank Library Book Club. May’s book club pick is “The Help” by Katherine Stockett. Readers will enjoy the story of African-American maids working in the South during the 1960s and one woman’s quest to document their lives.

The Friends of the Modesto Library will hold their annual 50% off Scholastic Book Sale at the Modesto Library Tuesday, May 21 through Thursday, May 23 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All books are brand new children’s and teen books from more than 100 publishers at discount prices. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to stock up on new reads for summer vacation!

Dinner Theater at the Modesto Library

Dinner Theater at the Modesto Library

Plan on a night of fun for the whole family with “Dinner Theater” at the Modesto Library on Wednesday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. Local musician, Chris Doud, will be performing wonderful folk music from his new children’s CD.

Participants will bring their own dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. with the free theater production following at 7 p.m. Dinner Theater, sponsored by the Stanislaus County Library Foundation, through a grant from Omega Nu, is a family program recommended for children ages 6 and older. Advance registration is required as space is limited.

GREAT HANG UP: Lip-syncing for a great cause

SACRAMENTO, CA -  Twenty local middle schools faced off at a microphone for the 16th Annual Club Live Lip Sync Contest benefitting safe and fun teen programs.

Three boys bravely lip-syncing to Beyonce's "All the Single Ladies" took home top honors.

It was an honor to be a judge and great way to celebrate positive teen news in our community.

The Sacramento County Office of Education and California Friday Night Live program helped put on the event at Crest Theater Friday night.
