California Community Colleges Launch Student Success Scorecard

San Joaquin Delta College officials and representatives from 112 other community colleges released the first Student Success Scorecard on Tuesday, April 9, with college officials applauding the state law that established the groundbreaking new student accountability performance tool.

“The scorecard represents one of the crowning pieces of reform outlined in the 2012 Student Success Act,” said Superintendent/President Kathy Hart.  “We are proud of the transparency the scorecard provides to our students and the greater public, and we intend to use the data to help us identify areas where we can improve programs and services for our students.”

Major findings in the first annual scorecard for Delta College indicate that:

Turlock City Skate Park to be renamed and dedicated to local skater

Turlock City Skate Park to be renamed and dedicated to local skater

 

Turlock City Skate Park will be renamed and dedicated to a local skateboarder who died from Adrenocortical Carcinoma, a rare form of cancer, last year.

Brandon Koch was described as an avid skateboarder and friend to all by his aunt, Judith Suliman. The park, located on Starr Street, will be renamed Brandon Koch Memorial Skate Park.

A dedication will take place on Friday, April 12 at 1 p.m.

TELL US - Are you disappointed in local news coverage?

The Associated Press reported on a new study from the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism that states that a third of consumers are disappointed in news coverage.

In short, the AP article mentioned that many of the consumers said there were fewer or less complete stories and that local news has become increasingly focused on weather, sports and traffic.

Oakdale Student receives Latina Scholarship to study abroad in Costa Rica

Oakdale, CA, 14 January 2013 – Kalkidan Curtis, an Oakdale High School student from Oakdale, CA has been awarded a Vaya a America Latina scholarship in the amount of $5,000 from AFS Intercultural Programs/USA.  Kalkidan will study in a Costa Rican high school for the spring semester of 2013, and live with a host family.
