Turlock offers $1,000 to new businesses
TURLOCK - City Council members here have gotten tired of seeing empty buildings line Main Street. So now the city is offering $1,000 to new business owners willing to dive in and open a business in the city.
The program would allow anyone to open a business in the city limits. To qualify, business owners need to create a business plan, meet zoning requirements, and meet with city officials on quarterly updates.
"We're keeping this simple and making it easy," said Economic Development Manager, Heidi McNally-Dial. "We want these businesses to succeed."
The city also partnered with the Small Business Development Center on Main Street to help entrepreneurs develop business plans.
"A business plan is a smart thing for any business to do," McNally-Dial said. "We're not asking for a lot of detail in the meetings, just 'have you met your targets? How's business going?
